The Gas Gas Factory Enduro Team rider finishes the World Championship with a thirteenth and eighth place in Zschopau. The last event of the season was one of the hardest and exhausting races that can be remembered in the last few years of the World Championship. The locality of Zschopau in Saxony, home of the 2012 German ISDE, once again returned to the front page of international competition with an authentic enduro race. The rocky, woodland terrain of its specials tested the World Championship riders to the limit, even more so, after the rain and mud that marked the last day.

This has been a few difficult weeks, in terms of mood and emotional state, for both Jonathan Barragán and his family after the tragic accident in which his brother Jesus died. The Gas Gas Enduro Factory Team rider, in a true example of professionalism, drew forces from his sadness to return to competition and race the last Grand Prix of the 2017 season.

The rider from Madrid finished thirteenth after a first day marked by problems in his second ride through the extreme, where he lost more than a minute which meant a drop in the classification. The next day, with the added handicap of the rain and the mud in the race, Jonathan Barragán overcame the delicate state of the specials to finish in eighth place.

We have finished a ride through hell in Germany. It has been one of the hardest races I can remember. On a personal level everything has been very complicated after the hard days that we have lived through with my family after my brother’s accident.

The ride continues

With these last two results achieved in Zschopau, the Gas Gas Enduro Factory Team rider closes the year with a ninth place in the E2 category, getting his Gas Gas EC 250 into the top ten of the World Championship at the maximum level of international competition in the crucial year of the debut of the new enduro from the factory in Salt.

This last GP of the season also counted with the presence of Antoine Basset, who gave all his moral and logistical support to the team in Germany. The official Gas Gas rider this year has been unable to participate in any of the events because of a knee and ankle injury suffered in February, during the pre-season stage. Basset was expected to compete in the German GP, but despite his enthusiasm and his hopes, unfortunately a final medical diagnosis advised the French rider not to rush into a race and take part in this last Grand Prix of the 2017 World Championship.

Now that the World Championship is over, the Gas Gas Enduro Factory Team is to take the road back home, where next weekend -28th and 29thOctober- the last meeting of the 2017 Spanish Enduro Championship in Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia is to be held.
